I’ve tried a lot of health trackers. Fitbit on my wrist for years, then an Apple Watch for a while, then a Whoop band — each one collecting data I’d glance at and mostly ignore. The Oura Ring 4 was different. A few months in, I’m still checking the app every morning. Here’s everything you need to know — including how it compares to the newer Ring 5, the Samsung Galaxy Ring, the Ultrahuman Ring, and others worth considering in 2026.
What Is the Oura Ring 4?
The Oura Ring 4 smart ring launched in October 2024 and quickly cemented itself as the benchmark for the entire category. It’s a titanium ring with no screen, no buttons, and no notifications. It just sits on your finger and quietly collects data: sleep stages, heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, skin temperature, stress, breathing patterns, menstrual cycle insights, and more — over 50 health metrics in total.
The gen 4 Oura Ring was a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor, largely thanks to a new sensor platform called Smart Sensing. Where the Ring 3 had 8 signal pathways, the Oura Ring gen 4 has 18. That means the ring can adapt when it shifts position on your finger — something that happens constantly during sleep — and still pull accurate readings.
The result: 30% better SpO2 accuracy, fewer heart rate gaps, and more consistent overnight data than the previous generation.
Oura Ring 4: Colours, Finishes, and the Ceramic Collection
Standard Titanium Collection
The new Oura Ring comes in six titanium finishes:
Silver Oura Ring 4 — probably the most versatile, works with everything
Oura Ring 4 Gold — warm, jewellery-adjacent look
Oura Ring 4 Rose Gold — softer tone, popular with people who find standard silver too cool
Brushed Silver — matte, less reflective than standard silver
Black — clean and minimal
Stealth — dark charcoal-grey, the most understated option
All standard finishes start at €349 / £349.
Oura Ring 4 Ceramic
In October 2025, Oura introduced the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic — made from zirconia ceramic (used in high-end jewellery) in four distinct colours: Midnight, Petal, Tide, and Cloud. This version is slightly thicker at 3.51mm (vs 2.88mm for titanium) and heavier, ranging from 5.1g to 8.1g vs 3.3–5.2g for the titanium versions.
The hardware inside is identical — same sensors, same performance. The difference is purely in material and expression. If you want something that genuinely looks like fine jewellery rather than a wearable gadget, the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic makes a strong case. It retails at $499 / €499.
As of mid-2026, there is no confirmed Oura Ring 5 Ceramic yet — so if ceramic matters to you, the Gen 4 remains your only option for now.
Oura Ring 4 Charger and Charging Case
The Standard Oura Ring Charger
Every Oura Ring 4 ships with a small magnetic Oura Ring charger — a compact dock that charges the ring from flat to full in around 60–80 minutes. It’s simple and works well at home.
Oura Ring 4 Charging Case ($99 / €109)
In late 2025, Oura launched a portable Oura Ring 4 charger case that holds up to five full ring charges — roughly 40+ days of use before needing a wall socket. It’s a clamshell design with an anodized aluminium exterior and USB-C charging. For travellers, this was a game-changer.
A few things worth knowing: the charging case is size-specific, so if you and a partner both have Oura rings in different sizes, you can’t share one case. It also doesn’t support the older Gen 3.
Oura Ring 4 Sizing Kit: Why You Must Use It
Here’s something that catches a lot of first-time buyers off guard — Oura’s ring sizes are not standard jewellery sizes. A size 7 ring from a normal jeweller does not equal an Oura Ring size 7.
Oura offers a free Oura Ring sizing kit (also called the Oura Ring 4 sizing kit) which you order before purchasing the ring itself. The kit contains plastic sizing rings in different sizes. You wear your chosen size on your target finger — Oura recommends index, middle, or ring finger — for at least 24 hours, including overnight. Why 24 hours? Because fingers swell in heat and shrink in cold. A ring that fits fine in a cool office might cut off circulation after a warm shower.
You can order the Oura Ring size kit directly from Oura’s website, and it’s also available at Best Buy and Target in the US. Getting this right matters more than with most wearables — a ring that’s too loose gives you poor sensor contact and inaccurate data.
Oura Ring 4 Cover and Protection
If you’re worried about scratches — and given the ring’s exposed outer surface, that’s a fair concern — Oura Ring 4 covers and silicone protectors are available from third-party sellers on Amazon. They wrap around the ring body and can also provide a more secure fit during workouts. Oura doesn’t make an official cover, but the aftermarket options are decent and inexpensive.
Is the Oura Ring 4 Waterproof?
Yes — the Oura Ring 4 is waterproof to 100 metres (10 ATM rating). You can swim, shower, and even dive with it. The Gen 3 had the same rating, so this isn’t new for the brand, but it’s worth confirming: you never need to take it off for water. The Ring 5, for what it’s worth, also carries a waterproof rating.
Oura Ring 4 Battery Life
The advertised Oura Ring 4 battery life is up to 8 days. Real-world usage — with all features active including SpO2 monitoring — brings that down to around 5–6 days. Still significantly better than charging a smartwatch nightly, and the most practical of any health tracker I’owned.
Charge time is roughly 60–80 minutes from flat. With the portable charging case, you can top it up anywhere.

With Ring 5 now on shelves, Oura Ring 4 sale pricing has started to appear — Oura dropped the Gen 4 by up to 20% following the Ring 5 launch, so this is currently a good time to buy at a discount. Check Oura’s website, Best Buy, and Target for current deals.
Oura Ring Subscription
The Oura Ring subscription is €5.99 per month (or €69.99/year). The first month is free with a new purchase. Without the membership, you can still see your three daily scores (Sleep, Readiness, Activity), but the detailed breakdowns, trends, and insights are locked. Budget for this from day one — it’s effectively part of the product cost.
Oura Ring 4 Trade-In
Unfortunately, Oura Ring 4 trade-in is not currently offered. Oura has no official trade-in or upgrade programme — you pay full retail for each new ring. No loyalty discount, no upgrade pricing. It’s one of the less customer-friendly aspects of the brand.
Oura Ring Discount
Occasional Oura Ring discounts appear around sales events (Black Friday, Prime Day). In July 2025, the Ring 4 received its first-ever discount — 15% off all colours. With Ring 5 now launched, Gen 4 deals are more common. It’s worth checking Amazon, Best Buy, and Target for current offers.
Oura Ring 4 vs 5: The Big Comparison
This is the question everyone’s searching for right now, so let’s go deep.
The Oura Ring 5 launched on 28 May 2026, with shipping beginning 4 June. Here is a direct breakdown of the difference between Oura Ring 4 and 5:
Size and Design
The Ring 5 is the headline here. It’s 40% smaller in volume — 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick, versus the Ring 4’s 7.9mm and 2.88mm. The Ring 5 weighs just 2–2.69 grams; the Ring 4 ranges from 3.3–5.2g. For anyone who finds the Ring 4 slightly bulky or has small fingers, this is genuinely significant.
Oura Ring 5 vs 4 size in plain terms: the Ring 5 feels closer to a standard thin band ring; the Ring 4 is more like a slightly chunky signet ring. Both are still far more discreet than any smartwatch.
Battery
Oura Ring 5 vs Oura Ring 4 battery comparison: Ring 5 is rated 6–9 days vs Ring 4’s up to 8 days. In practice, the Ring 4 delivers around 5–6 days; the Ring 5 should improve on that despite being 40% smaller internally — a genuine technical achievement.
Sensors and Accuracy
The Ring 5 brings improved LEDs and optimised light pathways, delivering roughly 12% better accuracy in heart rate and HRV. Not a revolution, but a meaningful improvement.
Oura Ring 5 Sizing
Oura Ring 5 sizing is different again from both the Ring 4 and the Ring 3. Oura strongly recommends using the Oura Ring 5 sizing kit even if you already own an older Oura ring. Some users find they need to go up a size. The Oura Ring 5 sizing kit is available at Oura’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Costco.
Like the Ring 4, there is no official Oura Ring 5 cover, but third-party silicone protective covers are already appearing on Amazon.
No Oura Ring 5 Ceramic (Yet)
There is currently no Oura Ring 5 ceramic version available. The ceramic lineup exists only for the Ring 4 as of mid-2026. This may change later, but for now, ceramic fans should stick with Gen 4.
